Twelve Hundred Three

November 23, 2020
7.00 Miles in 1:13:54
Mood: Not gonna do what I'm told.
Soundtrack: Twenty One Pilots "Trench"

If I just followed all rules and instructions blindly, would I just stand in this spray painted red square? I might. I'm glad I utilize my own mind and don't follow all instructions blindly. I don't want to stand in that square. I even made sure to avoid it while running around it.

Twelve Hundred Two

November 21, 2020
7.77 Miles in 1:17:27
Mood: Bright and cloudy
Soundtrack: Caroline Smith and the Good Night Sleeps "Backyard Tent Set"

It was somehow cloudy and super sunny at the same time at Wash Park. The light was weirdly harsh considering how many clouds there were. Odd as everything looked, it was a normal running day at the park, and I took advantage with a lovely Saturday run.

Twelve Hundred One

November 19, 2020
7.23 Miles in 1:14:09
Mood: Thanksgiving is better than Halloween, and I like it's decorations more too.
Soundtrack: Waxahatchee "Saint Cloud"

Who says Thanksgiving decorations aren't a thing? This pilgrim turkey begs to differ, and I'm not arguing with a giant inflatable turkey!

Five miles into this run, I was worried they might need to bring the stretcher out and carry me the rest of the way. I was beat, and didn't really believe I had the strength to push my self back home. Okay, it wasn't that bad, but I was definitely dragging. Thankfully, I found my second wind and was able to drag myself back those final 2 miles, but those were not miles for the highlight reel. Oh well, I pushed through thanks to the need to get home and good vibes from a Thanksgiving Turkey.

Twelve Hundred

November 17, 2020
7.03 Miles in 1:13:08
Mood: If only all late fall days felt this nice
Soundtrack: Crunching gravel on the trail.

I left the house without my earbuds, and I stood at the bottom of the stairs to my home and thought about going in to grab them, but decided it was fate that I just run and listen to the world today. I might have done a little better with music, but it was fine. It was one of those November days where the temps were warmer than usual and leaving the house didn't feel like walking into a giant walk-in freezer, so that was nice.

As you can see from the photo, the Highline Canal is pretty right now, even though the dominant theme appears to be brown. We have left the part of fall that I love, and are hurdling quickly to the worst time of the year, but at least today I was able to enjoy a warm brown day, which was much more pleasant than it sounds.

Eleven Hundred Ninety-Nine

November 15, 2020
7.58 Miles in 1:13:41
Mood: So many Yorkies!
Soundtrack: Twenty One Pilots "Trench"

This person has four Yorkies. I once had one Yorkie, and the amount of insanity that alone brought was pretty sizable. I cannot imagine a world where I own four Yorkies and stay sane. I loved mine, she was my favorite dog I ever had, but there is so much spice in that little package, multiply that by four and God knows what might happen. Keep this person in your thoughts and prayers.

Also, I was pretty proud of myself this run. My first lap around the park I meandered a bit, but once I began the second lap, I buckled down and finished two straight laps (approximately 5 miles) without stopping once. It felt great!

Eleven Hundred Ninety-Eight

November 13, 2020
7.02 Miles in 1:12:56
Mood: Slow to warm up to Friday the 13th
Soundtrack: Family and Friends "XOXO"

It was cold and Friday the 13th, and I took my sweet time getting out the door this morning. I saw maybe three people for the first three miles, and it was quite cold. I'm not sure if it actually warmed up, or if I just acclimated, but about halfway in I finally started feeling more like myself and it was actually a very pleasant second half. I just ran on the Highline Canal trail the entire time, because I couldn't think of any other place I wanted to go instead, so I didn't go anywhere else, and that was okay.

Eleven Hundred Ninety-Seven

November 11, 2020
7.85 Miles in 1:20:24
Mood: Cold and Electricity Tower pondering.
Soundtrack: TV on the Radio "Dear Science"

It was a circle Southglenn kind of morning, and then topped off by a few Highline miles. It took me awhile to get out the door this morning because it was 17 degrees outside when I woke up, and I just wasn't excited to get out into the cold. Once I did, though, it was a pretty nice morning. I took a photo of this thing today, because I didn't really see anything else to take a picture of, and I was kind of struck this morning by just how enormous these electricity towers are. Seriously, it's really big. Those are full sized cottonwood trees and they are just dwarfed.

Eleven Hundred Ninety-Six

November 9, 2020
7.92 Miles in 1:21:49
Mood: Watching the snow moving in
Soundtrack: Peter Mulvey "Letters from a Flying Machine" and "There is Another World"

The forecast called for snow, but I was out early enough in the morning that the sun was up and shining. However, I saw the storm moving in, including this moment here where everything was lit up with sunlight, but the dark clouds were sweeping in behind it all. Very odd to see, but it made the lighting very dramatic for a photo. The snow started falling on me very lightly with about a mile to go in this run, and then for the rest of the afternoon we got a light dusting.

Eleven Hundred Ninety-Five

November 7, 2020
7.39 Miles in 1:12:32
Mood: Allowing things to finish up.
Soundtrack: Counting Crows "Saturday Nights & Sunday Mornings"

For the third time in four runs, I was once again back at Wash Park. When I started this run, the election was still undecided. By the time I was finished, so was Trump. That is a productive run!

Eleven Hundred Ninety-Four

November 5, 2020
7.04 Miles in 1:12:16
Mood: Keeping myself calm.
Soundtrack: The Avett Brothers "Four Thieves Gone" and "Live, Vol. 3"

The election was still days away from being called, and although things were starting to look good for Biden, there was still some anxiety. (The kind of anxiety that comes from uncertainty) So as I left the house to run this morning, it felt good to lose myself on a nice morning run. There wasn't too much of note on this run, but I did think I found a particularly cool photo this morning as I passed by this beautiful house with a cool statue out front and the morning light hitting everything just perfectly. Very serene.

Eleven Hundred Ninety-Three

November 3, 2020
9.09 Miles in 1:28:45
Mood: Election Day!
Soundtrack: Ben Folds Five "Whatever and Ever Amen"

My company had given me election day off as a holiday, so I slept in. Once I woke up, I decided to head to Wash Park because I had the time and it was another beautiful day, and I didn't want to just wait around until the evening when the election results finally started trickling in. Since I had just run at Wash Park two days before, I decided to go on a longer run, and also hit up areas near Wash Park such as DU. On my way south, I saw this tremendous lawn sign, and before even knowing for CERTAIN that Trump would not win re-election, I knew this would be my picture of the day as it summed up the hope and optimism in my heart. When I saw this sign, it was like a confirmation that all would be well.

Eleven Hundred Ninety-Two

November 1, 2020
7.33 Miles in 1:11:28
Mood: Enjoying the calm before the election
Soundtrack: Waxahatchee "Out in the Storm"

Twas a perfect Sunday morning at Wash Park, and I was enjoying the sun on my face and the geese on the lake. Also, I ran seven miles. Just two days out from the election, there was some definite anxiety the world was facing, but on this morning, it was enough to have a beautiful day.

Eleven Hundred Ninety-One

October 30, 2020
7.09 Miles in 1:12:30
Mood: Loving the morning light
Sountrack: The Decemberists "What a Terrible World, What a Wonderful World" and "Hazards of Love"

While I'm no fan of the days getting colder and shorter, the morning light this time of year can be really great. This particular spot showed off how great the leaves picking up the light can be!
